I needed to call Simon before things could get even worst. I reached for my bag in the hallway, taking the phone out of it.

“Hey”, he whispered, “How you doing?”.

“Better”, I lied, “Yesterday was the worst day, but I'm good now”.

That wasn't actually a lie, I thought.

“I'm glad to hear it”, he said, “So I can come to you”.

“I don't think is a good idea”.

“Why?”.

“My mother is on the phone with yours right now, about the Christmas party”.

“I can hear them, so?”.

“If you come she's not gonna leave you alone”.

“Maybe you are right”, he stated.

“See you tomorrow in class?”.

“Of course, I can't lose the last day before the holidays”.

“Veronica would kill you”.

“Yep, see you tomorrow”.

“See ya”.

I hang up.

More lies.

More lies.

I went upstairs looking for my brother. The warrior took of the earphones from his ears and waited, till I had something to say.

Since he changed, he looked different, he was slowly getting bigger, stronger and luckily our parents attributed that to puberty or who knew what kind of excuse he would have used for it.

I closed the door behind me, leaning on it.

“Can you do that thing to cover this conversation”, he nodded, “Well do it”.

With not much effort he put the game on one side, and he concentrated.

“Done”.

“Thank, I don't want mum and dad to hear us”.

“What's up?”.

“I don't know what to do”.

“About what?”.

“You know what happened. I was in that house the other day, and when the demons took Justin down, I was alone and helpless”.

“I'm sorry”, he looked elsewhere.

“It's not your fault”.

“It is”, he screamed, “I am your protector, I should always know where you are, and that day I didn't even notice you needed help”.

“If I had my powers, I would have helped myself”.

“And there you go”, he urged, “What kind of powers exactly do you think you have?”.

“Always better than just staying there and watching Justin die”, I sobbed.

“I do you one better, if you would have listen to me and stop acting like you are alone in this, nothing would have ever happened in the first place”, he added, angry.

The silence dropped dead in the room. Then my brother stood up from the bed grabbing his shoes and putting them on.

“Do you wanna know why I was there?”.

“I don't care”.

“You need to know”, I urged him, “I was there because I wanted to get rid of them. I was at the shelter because I needed to tell them that I was out of their world. What Justin did was just help that I should have never accepted”.

His face became tense, probably the others forget to mention that detail.

“That's why I can't stop thinking that it's my fault, not yours, but mine”.

The phone on his bed blinked once. Gabriel looked at it briefly and then at me.

“We need to go to the shelter”.

“Is it Justin?”.

“I don’t know, get your stuff”.

I nodded as I was following him out of the room.

Shortly after we were at the house. The air in that place was heavier than before.

“Finally,”, Cassandra talked.
